Surrealist elements blend with history in this story of love conquers all:
In 1908, Long Tack Sam, a Chinese globe-hopping vaudevillian acrobat and magician marries Poldi Roessler, a shop girl from a small Austrian town who becomes his partner in the circus; in a difficult time for crossing borders and mixing races, they mount their cosmopolitan variety show featuring their two beautiful daughters, Mee-na and Nee-sa, to wild success—until 1932 when they come up to Vancouver, and it all comes tumbling down.
